Choosing a PSU for 0.05 TH/s+ SHA-256 Units
Power supply considerations for small SHA-256 mining setups where voltage stability directly affects hash rate output.
Voltage instability is the silent hash rate killer in older Korean commercial buildings converted to mining use. Units rated at 0.05 TH/s and above draw enough current that marginal wiring shows up as output variance before it trips breakers.
What We Measure
During field assessments, we log voltage at the PSU input terminals under full load. Acceptable range for most SHA-256 ASIC units is 205–240V depending on model. Sustained readings below the manufacturer’s minimum cause underclocking that pool statistics attribute to “bad luck.”
Practical Guidance
- Dedicated circuits per rack of four to six units reduce sag from shared loads.
- PSU units should be rated at least 20% above the miner’s maximum draw—running at capacity generates heat that shortens PSU lifespan.
- Replace PSUs showing capacitor bulging or fan noise changes before they take a board with them.
- In facilities with known voltage fluctuation, a line conditioner rated for your total rack draw is cheaper than replacing boards.
Korean Market Note
